Paul Hawken, Founder of the business sustainability movement, innovator, and author; Natural Capital Institute

Paul Hawken

Paul Hawken is an environmentalist, author, ecological entrepreneur and renowned expert on business and the environment. He has shared his perspective with influential audiences around the world, keynoting conferences and consulting with business leaders and heads of state on economic development, industrial ecology and environmental policy.

 

A widely published writer, Mr. Hawken's articles, op-eds and peer-reviewed papers about the impact of commerce on living systems have appeared in the Harvard Business Review, Resurgence, New Statesman, Inc, Boston Globe, Christian Science Monitor, Mother Jones, Utne Reader, Orion, and many other publications. He is also the author of seven books, including the best-selling "The Ecology of Commerce", which was voted the number one college text on business and the environment in 1998 by professors at 67 business schools. In 1999 he collaborated with Amory Lovins to write Natural Capitalism: Creating the Next Industrial Revolution, which former U.S. President Bill Clinton called one of the five most important books in the world today. His other national bestsellers are "The Next Economy", "Growing a Business" and "Blessed Unrest".

 

In addition to his writing career, Mr. Hawken is the founder of several ecological businesses, including OneSun Inc., and the Natural Capital Institute, whose main project is the creation of WiserEarth, the first open source platform for global social change, (http://www.Wiserearth.org).

 

He has received seven honorary PhDs and has been featured on television programs and in publications such as Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Washington Post, Business Week and Esquire.
